Description
From the manufacturer
Magpul MBUS Sights
The MBUS (Magpul Back-Up Sight) is a low-cost, color injection molded, folding back-up sight. It is constructed of tough, impact resistant polymer to provide light weight and resistance to operational use.
The spring-loaded flip-up sight is easily activated from either side or by pressing the top. The spring pressure and detent keeps the sight erect and in position when deployed.
The detent knob on the rear sight easily and positively adjusts windage, and the front sight includes an elevation adjustment tool. However, most aftermarket A2 front sight adjustment tools may be used as well.
Clamps to most any MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny/STANAG 4694 railed hand guard and provides the same height-over-bore as standard A2 irons. NOTE: Cannot be mounted to a railed gas block due to excess heat issues.

Rugged, reliable, quick, accurate, and inexpensive!
I’ve been running Troy Micro flip sights on my other rifle for about a year now. While certainly fantastic sights, there are two major drawbacks – one: you have to manually flip the sights up by pulling on them, and two: The sight will not fold down correctly if you prefer using the small aperture – the large aperture is in place by default. So when I bought my second AR, a Sig M400 Enhanced, it came with a less-than-stellar rear flip sight that had the same basic functionality of the Troy, but without the button lock. Being that I didn’t plan on mounting an optic any time soon, I realized the need for a quick deploy rear sight. That’s why I purchased the Magpul Gen 2 MBUS rear sight – and for my usage – it’s absolutely perfect. Everything about the sight screams quality. It’s quite heavy for polymer, which I wasn’t expecting, but still shaved some weight off of my AR (all Magpul MOE furniture to keep it light). It pops up quickly when needed and tuck away quickly when I don’t, were zeroed in with my standard A2 front post sight when I received them, and look fantastic on my rifle. I had used and abused a first gen set on a different rifle and they never let me down, so I don’t expect this one to either. Magpul is a company known for constantly striving to improve and perfect their products. Don’t listen to any naysayers about it being a “cheapo plastic sight” – These things are built like a tank and I actually prefer mine to the Troys I have on my primary rifle. If you need a flip up rear sight and are considering buying this – just do it – if you don’t like it – return it or sell it on Ebay for a minimal loss.

I’ve had these (front and year sights) for almost 10 years and they’re still going strong. They’re accurate, durable, and I have had them on several rifles over the years with no issues at all.

A solid choice for BUIS
This review is for the MBUS set (front & rear):They’re iron sights (made of polymer). They are, however, solid. No wiggling or anything. They are a bit tough to slide onto the rail to line up with a slot, but that is a plus IMHO.The rear sight doesn’t quite flip up consistently when pushed on either side, but using the center of the button solves the hesitation, and it works flawlessly. It springs up into position, but is hesitant in deployment, is probably a better way of putting it.The front sight flips up flawlessly no matter which side of the bar style lever (or button) you use (left, right, or center).I, personally, prefer metal sights. However, with the price vs quality factor/compromise taken into consideration, these are a solid choice and I do not regret this purchase.NB: It fits under my SigSauer Juliet 6, but the tolerance is paper thin between the rear protective cover (it slides off to access focus ring). Without the cover it’s got even more of a gap between the optic and rear sight in the folded position. But I prefer the cover on. These sights are mounted on a same-plane standard 1913 Picatinny rail.

The Praise it Gets is not Unwarranted.
After building my first AR, I researched the different back up sights available out there. I could have spent a few more dollars on the fancy CNC’d pieces, but after so many favorable reviews, in addition to the price, I thought I would give it a shot. When I got the sight, I inspected it for manufacture defects, tested operation and read the info sheet that came with it. Inspection showed no visible flash from the molding process. All edges were nicely rounded, which shows forethought into snagging on gear or clothing. Knobs are clearly marked and easily turned. The spring action is sharp, actually startled me with it’s force, but I don’t see it as being a problem. Mounted quickly and easily, but it’s Picatinny and that’s kind of the point. Manipulating it with my hands it feels solid and well built. Such is the quality that I won’t be “upgrading” it to an aluminum machined sight, there’s no reason other than to spend money. The one down, and I hesitate to call it this and I won’t take a star off for it, is the rear flip down aperture sight. It’s a bit sticky at first, but that is easily remedied by usage. The tab to flip it up or down is kind of small and if you don’t have some fingernail, difficult to flip. But really, if you’re in that much of a hurry to flip from far to close and vice versa, you’ve probably messed up some how. This is a backup sight for if my optics die. It folds down flat and out of the way. It seems to be rugged enough that it will stay tucked and out of the way until I really need it and work well.

Good for the money.
Overall, these sights are hard to beat for the money. They are super tough, well made and affordable. Two complaints I have with them. First, they are chunky. it makes mounting weapon lights difficult, if you, like me, prefer your light close to the top rail. Secondly, they are very stiff to get on the rail. I had to use a rubber mallet to get mine all the way on the rail. You’ll never have to worry about them coming off but still something to note. Overall though, I dont think you’ll find a better sight for the money, just be aware you might have to mess with your weapon light setup.

beats a standard front A2 sight by a long shot. (M&P-15 ii)
I didn’t actually plan on buying this, I had my eyes set on the polymer diamond back set. I found myself with unforeseen financial limitations and decided to just use an old rear Magpul MBUS with a Magpul MBUS front. this is a million times better than the standard F marked A2 sight. for some reason my eyes could not discern the (A2 sight) center of the front sight post due to its standard proximity on a carbine, this could be quantified by my range results which were sub-par at best. I decided to free-float a 15″ rail and extend the radius to maybe help with my issue. with this front sight, that works beautifully. of course this is a nice tactile and sturdy sight. fits tight on standard rails, and provides a nice wide plane for aftermarket front posts if you like the chevron styles that are typically wide at the base.this comes from a guy that isn’t a huge die hard Magpul fan. I think most of their MOE furniture is hideously ugly and serves a mall ninja purpose of being the most tacticool kid on the block, however, for this setup and what they are charging for it- I couldn’t be happier.

Magpul – Simply the best!
After serving in the US Infantry I know first hand how important sights are especially when your red dot isn’t functioning properly. These Magpul sights are made extremely durable and precise. I’ve had friends use other brands trying to save a few bucks and after a few hundred rounds down range their sights become either inaccurate or start to become loose. This is a no go!In s real emergency you only get one chance, make it count.I recently on my way to the range dropped one in my driveway and ran over it, scratched up but not broken it still performs as expected. If your using a red dot, they flip down and out of the way. With a simple push of the button they spring up and are ready to go. The adjustable knobs are very durable with a tigh feel to them, adjust once and forget about it.They also have both near and far adjustable see through perp hole for 200 yards or more accuracy.I’ve shot thousands of rounds with my AK and AR platform and have never had a single issue. If you found my review to be of help, please click the “helpful” button below. Thanks and always be safe 🙂

Great if you aren’t the type to bother with hours of research to find a better one.
This will really help if the paper target at the range fights back and breaks my primary sights. A simple click and huzzah, a nice sight pops up.On a serious note I spent some time looking to see if there was anything else cheaper because I feel like these should absolutely not be this much, but after a while I just realized that I should “pay myself” if you will, by just grabbing the magpul ones instead of risking something else. They’re not bad but I also am not super versed in other backup sights either, so your mileage may vary here. I got these mostly to just check off the “backup sights” box on my rifle so I could never bother with them anyway.

Check for genuine. Mine is, so 5 stars !
I got the genuine item. Made by Magpul. And as with all the few Magpul products I have bought I rate this a 5 star. I am really posting to let people know to read a one star review by a buyer named Jay. He did not get a genuine sight. I read his review after I bought my sight and I was lucky and got the real deal. Though Jay’s comment dates back to 2013 and maybe Amazon has this sorted, but just_in_case, I’d urge buyers to read Jay’s comment and some of the comments to his. Enlightening about Amazon and bogus products and how it happens that we ‘can’ ( though it has never happened to me) end up with a non genuine product.Reading Jay’s comment and some others to his, will let you know what to look for when buying this sight from Magpul. Again, I got the real item and give mine a 5 star. Mine does fit extremely tight on my Picatinny rail, so will, as another reviewer did, do some filing. Good luck, lg

Not easy to install
The install was the hardest part and it should be the easiest part. I had two shave off a little bit to get it to fit on my rail. I tried it on multiple guns to make sure it wasn’t just the rail and it had the same issue. Once I got it on the rail, I had to use a hammer and tap it in place.

Overall a good purchase.
Like the title says: it was a great purchase but with certain width of picatinny it can be a little more difficult to get it t slide to the desired position on the rail.

Hate to admit it but I like it and use it.
Meh, I am in no way shape or form a Magpul fanboy!! I even despise the term “Fanboy” I honestly don’t even like Magpul as a company because I’ve had issues with them and I find them to be condescending and arrogant. However with that said, I build a lot of AR15’s, and I find for the price these are some of the best BUIS’s you can buy. They are battle proven because they work! Personally, I like Troy better but that’s not Apples to Apples. If you are putting your money into an optic like most Rifle owners do these are a great choice for a BUIS. As much as it pains me to say it, it’ s true. I run them often because depending on a good sale I can pick them up dirt cheap. They fit the standard rails tightly and hold zero well. It’s super easy to deploy the site as well as close it. It’s light and has a tiny footprint on your rifle. It’s a great buy and addition for your AR15!

Love this sight
I use these on my AR. These are really nice sights if you are not much for optics, which I am not. This sight offers sturdy construction and is a snap to install. The folding feature, while cool, is nice if you are using it with an optic. Great sights and also good as backup sights.

Real Magpul? Too tight for the picatinny rail.
I’ll update the accuracy on this once I get the gun to the range, however I bought it for an AR pistol on it would not even go on the rails it was so tight. I didn’t want to try to hammer on it and I didn’t have a file handy at the time so I put it on a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 and put my A2-style back up rear sights on the AR pistol. If I have to file it to get it to fit on the gun I’m not going to be happy. QC should check this kind of stuff. I even had my doubts that it was a legitimate Magpul when it wouldn’t go on the picatinny rail. However it came and all the Magpul packaging and properly stamp so I will update the quality once I get to test the product out better.

Buy this sight!
This rear flip up sight is awsome. Magpul is an American company that makes quality items. MOE (magpul original equipment)has a reputation for being reliable, strong and durable. I bought this sight for my BUSHMASTER AR-15. If anyone knows bushmaster real well, they sell some of there firearms with MOE equpiment on them right from the armory. They even have an Bushmaster MOE series rifle. So if anyone has questions about the reputation of the compnay, its a great one. This fit perfectly on my rail system and is a tight fight. Its spring loaded, so push 1 of the 3 areas on the sight and it pops up or locks in the downward position. tough plastic material. However, the only adjustments you can make to the sight is for windage. you cannot adjust the height of the sight. But thats not needed anyway. all AR-15s have the same standard height for the front sight so it alligns great. Plus, i use this with my red dot sight and when its not on, the sight has a perfect clear view right threw the glass. I looked at Bushmaster sights and a few other sights that were nice but averaged about $100-$120. For the price, this sight is right up there with all the best ones. I recommend this everyone.

Great MBUS!
First of all … I like Magpul products. Have 2 AR’s and they Both have various Magpul accessories on them. I needed a back-up sight for my new AR and chose this one for several reasons: price, quality, functionality, brand reliability. Took it to the range and had it zeroed in just a few minutes. The adjustment tool to raise/lower the post is included, so no extra $$$ needed to buy one … convenience! There are those who would prefer an iron vs, polymer back-up sight and I get that, but this is my back-up sight as my primary optic is an Aimpoint PRO, and this back-up meets my needs. I suppose if I was running my gun hard in a tactical situation, I’d go with an iron sight, but I’m not. So, if you’re looking for something as a back-up in those situations where your primary optic may fail (batteries go dead on you), then this is a perfect option at a reasonable price. You’re better off with a Magpul than some of those other cheap iron sights that don’t hold zero, or wiggle on your rail, at a time when you need to be accurate. My thoughts.

Magpul Quality & Toughness, As Usual.
I needed only the front MBUS sight to finish an AR carbine build, and found it reasonably priced here on Amazon.Magpie has yet to ever let me down, having used dozens of their products; everything from this MBUS front sight to the ubiquitous PMAG to an AFG (angled fore grip), and even magazine covers and Ranger plates w/ the original ‘Magpul’ (Mag Pull…a strong rubbery loop on the bottom of a standard-capacity AR magazine that allows the user to easily locate said ‘mag’, grab it via the loop, and ‘pull’ (‘pul’) it free to reload.Anyway, the MBUS front sight is a strong device that is low-profile enough to sit underneath and/or out of the way of scopes, red dot sights, et al, and still instantly deploy when/if necessary, locking into place w/ a positive ‘snap’.To be sure, it’s Magpul – expect quality, reliable gear – made to provide years of service to its user.

It’s Magpul. What else can I say?
Magpul has always been a good quality for money sort of company. I’ve bought a lot of stuff from them, including a fixed stock, handguard, and grip. All of those, just like this product, have been excellent quality for money, but could definitely be better. I would place them in the better-than-good-but-just-barely-excellent-enough-to-pass category. Basically, you really can’t say no to something that is at least twice as good as anything else in its price range. This sight is no different. The sight picture is great. The fit/finish is pretty good. I’m not a big fan of the plastic, though. It seems like it’ll last a while, even though there seems to be *just* enough slack that I don’t really care for it. But then again, I’m a very discerning person. And I can’t say no to something that is better than any cheap steel sights out there. This sight is 75% to that of the Troy sights for < 50% of the price. You can't beat it. Would I buy again? Definitely. One person found this helpful

Light and tucks away nicely under my quick-release scope
Note: there is a typo in the description. It is adjustable for windage, not elevation.I installed it last night and took it to the range today and it works great. It fits perfectly under my scope and when I want to shoot iron sights, I undo the quick release on my scope, pop up this sight and it works great. Since it’s plastic, it’s very light and tucks away nicely. The plastic is quite thick and robust however.I originally had some 45 degree offset iron sights, but those had a few problems for me: 1) My brass catcher blocks the view of those sights so I can’t see, or I have to go chasing my brass around afterwards since I reload, 2) having the buttstock canted 45 degrees didn’t allow for me to get good solid stock positioning on my shoulder, 3) the 45 degree sights makes the rifle bulkier along the side and doesn’t fit as well in my case. With these, I do have to deal with physically removing my scope, but it doesn’t have any of the above problems.

Solid backup sight
The sign is solid and tight, no wiggle when extended and lays fairy flat. Red the instructions, many Picatinny rail mount products extend to go over the rail then tighten, this you need to pull the screw, extend the charge handle (AR mount) and slide it on then replace the screw threw the mount slot. Once on this has no slop at all.Nice feature is you can split the sight to longer range and shorter range viewing. This works well with the standard fixed front sight on an AR15, have not shot with this yet but sighed with laser sight and it is dead nuts after adjusting for windage.recommend.. Magpul makes some great products.

It’s a good sight, with only a few minor issues
I have two of these, and they work well. The main complaint I have is that on both my sights, there is a tiny, thin sliver of excess polymer on the inside of the CQB peep hole that hasn’t been properly trimmed off. It does not obstruct vision, but your brain notices the slight irregularity on what it knows should be a perfect circle, and draws your attention to it, which is not good. While this is not a huge deal and can easily be remedied with a utility knife (provided you’re careful enough not to make it into permanently imperfect circle), the amount of money you’re paying for this demands a tighter quality control from the manufacturer.Poor trimming aside, I find the CQB peep diameter to be a tad too big for my liking, but that doesn’t make or break it for me either. The sight is solid, does what it’s designed to do, and in my experience in having it mounted on an AR, is unaffected by recoil.I would recommend this sight to others.

Never buying another from a brick and mortar store
These things are $100 or more at Brick and Mortar stores. Never again after trying these. I thought perhaps they were for airsoft or something being so cheap. But now that I’ve tried them, I’ll never give those stores another dime for overcharging the hell out of us. These are perfect for rifles that just need “irons.”

Good, relable and works very well as backup or primary sight
Magpul products can be counted on in most cases. No batteries needed, no optics to get dirty, out of alignment or broken. When it comes down to a critical situation you need simplicity and reliability.

Great for the range gun!
Yes, its plastic! But when used on a range only rifle as a “backup sight” it makes a lot of sense. If your main optic – scope, electronic red dot or some other optic fails during an outing you’ll still be able to enjoy the day at the range and is economically priced, whereas most metal folding rear sights cost over $100 the Magpul fits the slot as a “backup.” For a rifle that needs to be used whens lives are depended upon, I would suggest a USA made metal rear sight as backup. The occasional shooter like me who wants to practice target shooting is going to do fine with the Magpul Gen II MBUS.It matches to the std. A2 front sight on the AR15 or its own Magpul front sight (make sure the front Magpul sight is not on the AR15 gas block, the heat will melt the plastic!). The Magpul Gen II MBUS rear sight is installed on any flat-top AR15 and easily adjusted for windage. Has two apertures like the std AR15 rear sight but folds down with the smaller aperture (precision shooting) which is the opposite of most rear sights whereas the larger aperture is the default when folded. I don’t mind as I shoot better with the smaller aperture – more used to the precise since I own a $2K+ German match air rifle. This is my 3rd rear Magpul sight and for an item that will be infrequently used, because it sits under a scope and cannot fold up till you remove the scope and mount, $50 is not as bad as a $100+ metal rear sight infrequently used. Also, like others mentioned make sure you don’t buy the Magpul PTS sights – they’re for AirSoft guns and not firearms, they’re usually in a box set and really low price.

Best all around back up sight without breaking the bank
Listen, a lot of guys will whine and say that the mbus sight is not the best choice for a folding back up AR sight, claiming that there are far better designs out there that beat the Magpul. I agree that it is not a Troy, but it sure is a lot cheaper, and when you look at it with value for the money in mind, it wins. I recently saw an online torture test of a bunch of folding back up sights and the mbus won over the Troy and some other high dollar sights because it held zero better and did not break after being attached to a rifle and then dropped sight first onto concrete! The polymer design is the same high quality type used to make Glocks, and we all know how serious their reputation is for durability and quality. Magpul makes great stuff and they understand today’s average consumer is not made of money either, so they worked out a great balance between reliability, quality, and affordability. I like the apertures as the sizes are perfect. The smaller aperture is a good all around diameter and the larger seems good for close quarters combat or low light conditions. Sure the mbus rear sight is only windage adjustable, but within around 200 meters, this will do the trick. From my memory, the Army standard is to zero iron sights at 25 yards for a usable battle setting out to 250 meters for 5.56. Remember that this is a fairly flat round in as the bullet drop factor is minimal at normal combat distances, actually average 55 grain ball rounds only drop around 9 inches at 200 yards. When you do want to reach out further than a few hundred meters you may want to be using a magnified optic anyway because of ease of adjustment and precise visibility. So just get one already, you won’t regret it!

Magpul quality
Sights are as expected, based on prior experience with Magpul. Easy to install on your average picatinny rail, with basic tools. Perhaps the best part about these sights are the ease of adjustment – windage & elevation. Very easy & intuitive to do out in the field, as well. Build quality is also excellent. In short, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this product.

Fell apart while adjusting.
I’ve never had an issue with these sights in the past until this one. I installed the sight to the rail and set up to zero with a bore sight laser. I put a quarter turn to the left and let go of the dial. The dial fell off and the “click ball” and spring flew out. There was either no roll pin in the dial to hold it in place or it was the wrong fit and fell out at some point. I still haven’t found a roll pin or the ball anywhere. I don’t have time for returns as I need to head out in a couple hours. For now, I’ve cut a #6 shot shell open to find out it’s a perfect size shot to use as a “click ball” and now gotta figure something out to replace the roll pin. This is messy and a shame. Never would’ve imagined that being an issue. Not gonna stop me from using MBUS sights though.

Excellent Quality and Fit!!!
I’m starting to become a big fan of Magpul and its product line including its PMags, Hand-guard, and now their rear MBUS flip sight! This rear back-up sight is made of Polymer (fancy plastic) which makes it extremely lightweight yet durable! The build quality and Quality Control on Magpul products is superb and you can feel that when holding the product as well as with the price tag. The flip-up feature is a bit sticky sometimes but works real quick 98% of the time so be aware not to pinch your finger pushing on the top button! This is a great buy if you’re looking for a low profile flip-up sight to put under/behind a scope or red dot sight! I leave this on my rifle all the time because it takes a flat head to remove and I just put my Vortex Strikefire red dot sight on or a magnifying scope for long distance that I can quick detach quickly and flip up the back up sight for close quarters. Currently I’m running the flip-up sight with my red dot and it’s been working great at the range. I will say I noticed like a couple other reviewers that the apertures with the larger hole is a little bit too big and the smaller hole is somewhat too small in that the center while peering through has a blackish blur at times. Just a heads up for anyone who thinks the sight holes are exactly the same size as mil-spec AR carry handle sights.

Great baseline sights to start out with or for backup.
The absolute benchmark in today’s world for entry-level polymer sights. Lots of guys will scoff at them because they’re plastic. I’ve got 3 or 4 sets of these and they’re great. Don’t be fooled by imitations, there are tons of cheapies out there that are fake and there IS a difference. Look at the logos, at the screws, the colors on the FDE and OD ones (the center portions with the peep are always black on real ones, never colored), etc. Do the research. They’re pretty simple to tell the difference once you see them side by side.I got mine from Amazon LLC, not another seller, and it was the real Magpul deal.Don’t think you can cheap out and buy PRS sights (Magpul-licensed cheaper, Chinese-made Airsoft or training sights) and expect them to work. I bought 3 or 4 sets and they are not NEAR the quality of the Magpul real thing. Not to mention I could not get them dialed-in properly… they’re not made to the same tolerances and I thought I could get by – I was wrong. Are Troy or YHM or MI’s iron flip-ups better? Maybe more durable, but I’m not an “operator” and I’m not over playing in the sandbox. At 2, 3 or 4 times the price, they oughtta be stronger. Mine seem to be working just fine, and while I haven’t dropped them off any buildings lately, I think they’ll do for me. :

With a bit of common sense, you too can be satisfied
Okay, I want to talk a bit about these sights. Magpul makes good stuff, and they are innovative. I have two sets of these sights mounted to a couple of my AR15’s. They are lightweight, low profile, durable, economical, and very user friendly. Just click or karate chop it, and it flips up. Push it down and it locks back down. That’s it! No weird cross pin style locking mechanisms, no need to push up and lock into place. When time is of the essence, just reach up with your thumb and CLICK! It’s in place faster than you can blink an eye! Good sight picture front and rear. They sit really low on the rail when not used. Installation is simple. Just push it on from the end of your AR15’s picatinny rail, locate your preferred mounting spot, and put the provided screw through the sight and rail and tighten it with a screwdriver. Really, these sights are idiot-proof… or are they?Magpul should not have to put a disclaimer stating not to mount polymer sights to gas blocks. I figured it was only common sense, but after reading the interwebz and a couple of reviews from here, there are people out there who actually figured you could mount these to gas blocks, until they read the fine print… and the blamed the sights themselves. Like I said, I figured it was common sense, but then again, McDonald’s was sued because a woman spilled her coffee in her lap and the cup wasn’t labeled “HOT COFFEE.” Go figure.Additionally, these sights are engineered to sit on top of accessory rails (rears on AR15 flat top receivers). Of course, you can mount them to other guns, but I’m speaking to the other group of people who can’t get them to sight in right because they disregarded common sense and logic and actually mounted these sights to gas blocks, and then fired the gun! Most gas blocks sight below rail height. If you want a gas block mounted sight, buy one specifically designed with the extra height (and metal) in mind. Just don’t go around dogging these sights because you didn’t read before you installed them.As for durability, some people are saying that because they are plastic, they will break. Okay, well then how do you explain Glocks, FN’s, XD’s, M&P’s and such? Oh I’m sure some have broken, but most plastic guns that are fighting in wars and being used for LE, are holding up just fine to the sort of abuses they are subjected to. My AR15 is my working gun. The MBUS sights installed on it are no exception. That AR rides in the back of pickup trucks, gets used in harsh desert conditions, fears no snow, goes up the rocky mountainsides with me, and generally sees an assortment of things that safe queens and bench rest guns would never dream of. The sights have never shot loose, never cracked, warped, disintegrated, or malfunctioned in any of the ways mentioned in some of the 1-3 star reviews. In fact, despite being on my AR15 for over a year, and accompanying me on just about every outing off pavement and away from the covered range, they still look new, aside from some dirt hiding in some of the small corners. They also cowitness to the lower 1/3rd of an Aimpoint Comp M3 in a Larue LT150 mount.

Simple and effective
Currently running the rear and front sights on my AR as a backup to my optic. The flip-down feature is simple yet effective at minimizing snag. If you want a more durable option, check out the metal version.

Wouldn’t hesitate to buy another
I love this sight to death. It’s so tight to put on the rail I had to apply lube to the rail itself, tight tolerances are a good sign of quality manufacture. Feels solid, not flimsy or wobbly. Spring retention ensures that after each shot it returns to zero. Also, the square top of the sighting ring makes obtaining accurate aim faster. I have an A3 type rifle, and the standard A2 front sight with it’s dog ears protecting the front sight blade: point directly to the squared edges of this rear sight’s peep ring. Which actually makes acquiring the target seem easier and faster than if it were a perfect circle rear sight ring. Maybe it’s psycho somatic where it’s purely me, but it quite honestly seems faster on target than metallic orb rear peeps. the square top of the sight ring, purely objectively to me at least, seems to aid in my finding the center with the front sight blade because the dog ears protecting the blade have an extra frame of reference by branching off towards the square radii left and right of the rear peep.Could be my imagination: but I love this thing. It’s solid, tight, retains zero, folds -REALLY- low (which is great) and what I like most: super light weight. I don’t like quad rails and hanging off 5 pounds of junk on my rifles. I don’t put anything on one of my rifles unless the added capability the accessory brings justifies the weight it brings. I like an Ar-15 carbine to be light and fast, transition target to target quickly.I wouldn’t hesitate to put one of these on any pic rail that needs a backup rear. Be it a full fledged A3/A4 combat rifle or a $5k race gun that has to have a rear sight to qualify for a division or specific course of fire. Fits tight, holds zero and weighs next to nothing: you can’t go wrong with one of these. I have -NOT- had hands on experience with the mbus II FRONT sight, only the rear: so I cannot offer an informed opinion about the mbus front sight. I can say with relative confidence, I have a high opinion of magpul products in general and if the front sight is of equal quality to their rear sight – I wouldn’t hesitate to use that either. I cannot however, give first hand account of what the front sight is like. I can say that -MY- mbus II rear sight is terrific, and that it’s my go to choice for any pici-rail gun platform that’s in need of a backup rear.

Doesn’t fit FX Wildcat MK3
It is a very tight fit, basically a force fit on my FX WIldcat BT MK3, which is an overpriced Swedish made Airgun, DEFINITELY NOT an AR15, so this review prolly doesn’t have much value for many of you guys out there. If you never wanted to remove them they would probably work out well, but the gun is too new and I am not ready to commit, plus I got a thermal scope for it, and that is DEFINITELY going on there. (I was hoping to slide the front sight forward to make room, but no go after the first 1/2 inch without resorting to the hammer) Product seems well made and sturdy, and I like the sight aperture, though I have never used one of that type before, just the regular square notched iron sights that, I assume, are still standard on basic deer rifles.

Great Sight for the money!
These sights are wonderful, some people say Troy are better and I do not disagree that troy are quality back up sights. But magpul are cost effective and in a drop test they seemed more durable than Diamondhead/Troy. Not only did they retain zero better than the others, but they seemed to handle impact better than metal.Taken from an article on KitUp”In order to test whether certain popular BUIS would still be serviceable after taking a hard hit, I attached three different types of BUIS – Troy Industries, Magpul Industries and Diamondhead USA – to an AR-15 rifle chambered in .300 AAC Blackout weighing 7 pounds and dropped the rifle upside down from a height of 5 feet onto a concrete surface.Other portions of the rifle were protected from damage, and each set of BUIS took a solid hit from the drop. The ammunition used was Remington Premier Match .300 AAC Blackout 125 gr OTM. Each sighting device was installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions, then points of impact was established from a stable shooting position at 25 and 200 yards. After the drop, the rifle was fired again, and any change in point of impact noted. The first BUIS dropped was the Diamondhead. At first, damage appeared cosmetic only; however, the apertures could no longer be rotated, windage could not be adjusted, and there was a definite cant to the BUIS. Point of impact shifted approximately 16 MOA. We contacted Diamondhead with this result. They replied that a newer version was available which was more durable. We offered to test the new model but production issues meant they could not ship one to us. Next came the Troy sight. Cosmetic damage was apparent, but the sight could still be operated normally. Point of impact shift was approximately 3 MOA.The last set of BUIS was the Magpul MBUS. Damage was purely cosmetic and the sight remained fully functional. Point of impact shift was less than 1 MOA. Unlike the other sighting devices, a second drop was performed. Results did not change, and the sight remained functional.”Now my personal experience with these is on my M&P15-22 but I’m ordering an additional MBUS for the AR I am building. They are really good quality, just make sure you don’t get a PTS sight from a bad retailer.

Excellent for the cost.
Like almost everything Magpul makes, this is a great product, especially for its cost. I do not think it is the best BUIS available for purchase, however, I think it is by far the best available for the cost ($55). I have owned and used cheap $25 UTG back up rear sights and I have owned and used $125 Troy rear BUIS. The Troy sight that I have mounted on my M&P is better than the magpul because it has a more precise feeling adjustment (very tactile feeling clicks for adjustment). The magpul has held zero very well and adjustment is easy and fairly precise (a little more play between clicks). It took a while for me to figure out how to work them, but this sight does have dual apertures, though in my opinion it would not have mattered if it did not because I use the sight strictly to back up the vortex sparc (which has also surpassed my expectations) mounted on this rifle. The dual aperture mechanism seems a little flimsy because they “sandwich” together instead of being able to flip from one aperture to the other like most iron sights. I have found no problem thus far, but the way they click together could become problematic. That is just my opinion and for others information to point out that it is not the traditional dual aperture used in a carry handle or 95% of other AR back up sights. My notions of future problems obviously didn’t effect my 5 star rating. If it were my only sight on the weapon, I would probably spring for a better sight, but I purposely bought a less expensive sight for a gun that I was not intending to drop a lot of cash into. I love the spring deployment feature as well. It is also very sturdy, unlike the old UTG sight that I had (after about 6 months it wouldn’t stay in the “up” position). If you are even considering a cheaper folding rear sight (i.e. UTG, NC Star, etc.), go ahead and save up for this one. You won’t be sorry.

Accurate on Sig Sauer MCX Virtus
New MCX Patrol 16” which also gets a Romeo 8h red dot but wanted backup sights and Magpul had the product. Not a giant fan of the installation which is quite tight. If I was installing another set it would go easier now understanding the process. For me once the screw was removed I had to come to an understanding of the force required to slide it in place. Once I understood that the rear sight was easier. When I fired the rifle for the first time I wanted to use and adjust the pop up sights first and then the red dot. Full disclosure I had adjusted the front sight UP based on a cheap bore laser. Shouldn’t have done that. My first 3 rounds off of a bench at 25 yards were less than an inch in a group but 2” high and 1/2” left. Easy to adjust for that. Once I had the backup sights adjusted which took 12 rounds total I co witnessed the red dot. The red dot was almost spot on and it only took 3 groups of 3 to get acceptable for first day. Over time the dot will undoubtedly get a few very small adjustments for the accuracy the rifle is capable of. 68 grain Hornady match. Personally I am impressed with the accuracy of the backup Magpul sights. I prefer red dot for the ‘both eyes open’ situational awareness but it’s good to have decent back up sights. I was also happy that the backup sights co-witnessed with the Romeo 8h like they were made for each other. By the way my new Sig Sauer MCX Patrol came new with a Magpul folding stock. Apparently Sig likes Magpul just fine. Magpul has become a trusted name and my extra magazines were Magpul, big fan of the window.
